The Neuroblanket Initiative is a specialised 10-week neurorehabilitation group designed for individuals who have experienced a stroke and want to improve functionality in their most affected arm. Each week, participants will engage in structured activities that combine proven rehabilitation techniques, educational support, and creative crafting.
• Length: 10 weekly sessions plus 2 additional assessments
—(pre-assessment at the start and a post-assessment at the end to track progress)
• Location: 1/27 Yallourn Street, Fyshwick, ACT
• Participants: Adults who experienced a stroke more than six months ago
• Goal: Improve arm functionality, gain knowledge, and build a meaningful connection through shared experiences and activities
This program is specifically designed for:
• Stroke Survivors: Individuals who had a stroke more than six months ago and have mild to moderate arm limitations.
• Motivated to Improve: People seeking to regain strength, coordination, and functionality in the affected arm.
• Social Connection Seekers: Those interested in a group experience, meeting others who share similar recovery journeys.
Each session is designed to foster both personal growth and group connection. Here’s what to expect:
Welcome & Introduction: Start with a warm-up and group check-in to create a supportive atmosphere.
Educational Segment: Learn about stroke recovery, neurology, and techniques to empower your recovery.
Mental Practice (Motor Imagery): Visualise arm movements to activate brain areas involved in movement, improving motor function through mental rehearsal.
Crafting Your Neuroblanket: Create a fleece blanket to strengthen fine motor skills and coordination. By the end, you’ll have a completed blanket symbolising your progress and dedication.
Pre- and Post-Assessments: Each participant undergoes an initial assessment to evaluate arm function and set goals, followed by a post-assessment to measure progress.
Progress Report: Participants receive a detailed report summarising their achievements and future recommendations.
Completion Certificate: A certificate is awarded to celebrate their dedication and recovery milestones.
